Hong Kong Eatery

I have been having a hard time finding delicious crispy roasted pork outside of Malaysia. Over the years living in Chicago and also in Boston, I’ve yet to come across roast pork like what we get in Malaysia. The yummiest of all roast pork I had eaten outside of Malaysia was sadly in London. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the restaurant, all I know it’s in Chinatown London and the shop is sort of multi level yet tiny. Who cares….as long as they SERVE THE BEST ROAST PORK!!! It was soooooo GOOD hubby and I purposely made a trip back to Chinatown the next day just to indulge in more roast pork goodness. Can someone please FeDex me 2 lbs of Roast Pork from London?? Pretty please…..??

Our friend Tiffany introduced us to Hong Kong Eatery in Boston adding that they have yummy roast meat. We tried it first time last year, ordered some roast pork, roast duck and some signature house dishes. She was quite right….the roast pork was indeed good! It’s probably the best roast pork I had in the US the 8 years I’ve been here.

We got addicted and have now occasionally drop by Hong Kong Eatery for their roast products, specifically roast pork. Sadly over time, I found that the roast pork was no longer as appealing to me.  =( My recent purchase of the roast pork was the worst. The skin was crispy and not crunchy. I don’t know how to quite describe it, but the skin looked like it was not roasted right. It looked quite charred, yet the skin was not crunchy.

And my other turn off was the way sneaky the seller does business.  Hubby asked for 1/2 lb of roast pork buy the shop cut up almost 1 lb of meat. He did asked hubby if it was ok, and hubby thought the guy was asking if the cut was ok not knowing that he was given almost 1 lb of meat. HOW SNEAKY IS THAT???? It’s ok, if the roast pork was to-die-for but when it’s so disappointing I deem the extra 1/2 lb is a waste of money!!! Seriously, the guy probably cuts up meat all day long, 7 days a week, I am 100% sure he knows how to differentiate between 1/2 lb and 1 lb of meat. I was quite pissed off as I know this was not the first time such situation had happened. It happened to me once and I had to haggle with the seller the amount of meat I actually needed! So, buyer beware….keep a close eye on the scale if you do not want more meat than you asked for!!!!

I don’t know if I’ll be back again for their roast pork. Maybe I will give them one more chance…. I should seriously look into making my own roast pork, roasting the skin to perfection just the way I like it.

Oh yeah, it’s a cash only restaurant…No credit card accepted!
